Watch Conyers' Hearing on Domestic Spying 9AM Friday

From Rep. John Conyers, via his diary on Daily Kos:
Tomorrow (1/20), I will be holding a hearing/briefing on Bush's warrantless domestic spying program. The hearing will commence at 9 AM MT, and will be broadcast live on C-SPAN, Radio Pacifica, and ABC Radio. You can listen online on Pacifica Radio. It will also be covered by CNN, the New York Times, and many bloggers. This is particularly timely since the DOJ today issued a 42 page rant that again attempts to defend the indefensible -- spying on Americans without court approval.

... This is a Huge development. The fact that millions of Americans will be able to tune in and see House Democrats challenging this program will show that we don't need to simply sit on our hands while the Constitution is shredded.

We will have an excellent and bipartisan panel, including Reagan Deputy AG Bruce Fein, GWU Law Professor Jonathan Turley, spying expert and author James Bamford, peace activist Richard Hersh, ACLU DC Director Caroline Frederickson, and Kate Martin of the Center for National Security Studies.  I'll be joined at the hearing by my Judiciary Colleagues, Jerrold Nadler, Bobby Scott, Sheila Jackson Lee, Maxine Waters, Adam Schiff, and Chris Van Hollen, among others.

Much, much more will be coming on this abuse, but we need to begin with a good airing of views. See you tomorrow.

New Air America Program With Latino Point of View Gets ABQ Test

From Soy Blue:
There's a new show premiering on Air America’s Albuquerque affiliate, 1350 AM-KABQ, this weekend. The show is hosted by Albuquerque's own NYT best selling author Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez and her father, who is a professor of sociology at the University of New Mexico. The show is called "Our America," and is a progressive political and cultural program in English with an emphasis on the Latino point of view on issues of the day.

The show will only be heard in the Albuquerque market as a demo show. After December 10,  Air America will make a decision on whether to air it in other markets. If we can create a buzz on the blogosphere we may be able to help Our America stay on the air.

Check out the diary with a poll at Daily Kos if you’d like to read more about the new show.  Info is also posted at Soy Blue. If you're so inclined, go ahead and post a comment at the diary and vote. One last thing -- forward this to your respective lists if you think that Our America should be heard on Air America nationally.

SAGE Council Interview on Petroglyphs Airs Tonight on KUNM

From KUNM:
Listen in to KUNM 89.9FM tonight, Monday, November 21st, from 8:00 PM to 8:30PM for an interview with the Sacred Alliance for Grassroots Equality (SAGE) Council's leadership and a reflection about the historic struggle to stop the extension of six-lane Paseo del Norte through the sacred petroglyphs on Albuquerque's West Mesa.

Yesterday afternoon nearly 400 people joined a march to give homage to the petroglyphs' survival for over 2,000 years now. By tonight's interview, a decision will have been made by the New Mexico State Cultural Properties Review Committee as to whether the road will be allowed to move forward.

This interview is part of "Espejos de Aztlan," a weekly radio program highlighting the courage, strength and beauty of community organizing efforts such as that of SAGE in New Mexico. Espejos has been on-air since 1979 and is part of the Raices Colectiva which conducts programming on news, culture and music from a Latino perspective on KUNM 89.9.

Watch "Earth to America" Comedy Benefit Sunday on TBS

From NRDC's EARTH ACTION:
NRDC board member and Stop Global Warming Virtual March founder Laurie David has created "Earth to America" -- a televised star-studded evening of comedy and music to raise environmental awareness.

Sunday, November 20th, 6:00 PM (Mountain Time)
TBS (Comcast Channel 43)

"Earth to America" will feature Tom Hanks, Steve Martin, Will Ferrell, Martin Short, Ben Stiller, Ray Romano, Jack Black and Larry David. Jason Alexander, Stephen Colbert, Rob Corddry, Al Franken, Eric Idle, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Kevin Nealon, Conan O'Brien, Wanda Sykes and Robin Williams are also scheduled to appear. In addition, country music superstars Tim McGraw and Faith Hill will perform.

The show will be taped this week at "The Comedy Festival" at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. In addition to the comedy and musical entertainment, "Earth to America" will honor environmental heroes, including NRDC senior attorney Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

"Earth to America" began as "Earth to LA," a bi-annual Los Angeles fundraiser produced by Laurie David to benefit NRDC; the show has raised millions of dollars over the past several years. As Laurie says, "Comedy can be a very powerful tool to entertain and to educate, and that is the goal for Earth to America."

About NRDC: The Natural Resources Defense Council is a nonprofit environmental organization
with more than one million members and online activists, and a staff of scientists, attorneys and environmental experts. Our mission is to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and ensure a safe and healthy environment for all living things.
