51 Capital March

From Kip Humphrey of The 51 Capital March:

JOIN WITH US! "YOU STOLE MY VOTE" 51 CAPITAL MARCH
SUNDAY, DECEMBER 12TH 2004
at Noon Everywhere!

On December 12th, 2004, at 12 noon, before the steps of your State Capital and the Federal Capital, join with us to protest the theft of our votes and our voting rights in the 2004 election. As citizens, it is our duty to protect those basic rights that insure the survival of our democracy and constitution for present and future generations of Americans.

Egregious infringements of our voting rights occurred in the 2004 election: our voting systems were compromised and our votes violated. The line was crossed: we no longer trust our voting systems. As citizens, we must stand together and demand of our fellow citizen electors:

Do NOT cast your vote for President and Vice President until state election officials provide a complete, accurate, and verified vote recount.

Of our state and federal election officials:

Provide a verified, accurate, and complete recount of the votes cast in the November 2nd elections.

Of our state and federal representatives:

Immediately investigate the root causes of voting system and voting process failures during the 2004 elections Act to ensure the integrity of all future elections.

Join with us in a people's uprising, a citizen protest. Volunteer to help mobilize the citizens of your state to converge on your state capital in peaceful protest of our stolen rights. On December 12th, go to your state or federal capital and make your voice heard. Make a sign and show up!

There's more Information at the 51 Capital website. Another source of information on scheduled protests around the nation is at Solarbush.org.

Note: No coordinator for New Mexico has volunteered to coordinate a protest at the Roundhouse in Santa Fe on December 12th. If you would like to volunteer for that role, sign up at the 51 Capital March website. Otherwise, it's been suggested that you make a sign and show up in Santa Fe at Noon at the Roundhouse.

NM Human Needs Coordinating Council Meets This Week

This information was submitted by Eric and Sonja Elison, who discussed this organization Saturday night at a meeting of their activist group called NM Democratic Friends. You can read about this group's mission here, and download an information sheet here to fill out if you'd like to become a member. (Both of these are Word documents.) You can reach the Elisons at selison22@comcast.net.

The next monthly meeting of the NM Human Needs Coordinating Council will be on Wednesday, 12/8/04, from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM at La Familia, 707 Broadway NE # 201, in Albuquerque. This meeting is open to the public.

The agenda will include consideration of bills to endorse in the 2005 Legislative Session. Bills currently on the agenda are: Living Wage, Immigration Education Act, Guardianship Improvement Bill, Prohibition of Smoking in Workplaces, and Fair Lending Practices.

Is your group or organization planning on advocating for or against proposed legislation in the 2005 New Mexico Legislative Session? Do you want to spread the word about the legislation? Do you want community members statewide to learn about the legislation early and join with you in advocacy during the session? Then bring your draft legislation (or fact sheet about the legislation) to the HNCC meeting in December.

Please contact us for more information about endorsement of bills and to be placed on the agenda. Note that if your organization would like HNCC to track endorsed bills on our website, you must be a current HNCC organizational member or pay an annual tracking fee.

Bills and memorials submitted for endorsement must: 1) be related to HNCC’s mission statement and guiding principles; 2) have “over-arching” impact on community members (not just individual agencies or programs); 3) have statewide, regional, or broad geographical impact; 4) be submitted in writing with an original and 30 copies.

E-MAIL ALERTS & INTERNET TRACKING OF HNCC-ENDORSED BILLS: HNCC endorsed (or opposed) bills are tracked on a daily basis (and e-mail alerts are sent out when appropriate) for HNCC member organizations during the Legislative Session.

NOMINATIONS ACCEPTED FOR THE REP J. PAUL TAYLOR LEGISLATIVE CHAMPION AWARD: HNCC is seeking nominations for the Rep. J. Paul Taylor award for a legislator who has demonstrated a commitment to the health and human needs of New Mexico. Please submit the legislator’s name and reasons for nomination by December 17th at 5 PM to Kristen at HNCC.

The legislative breakfast reception will be held on February 2 from 7:30 AM to 9 AM at the St. John’s Methodist Church in Santa Fe. Last year, more than 150 advocates and legislators from across the state attended. The reception is co-sponsored by many other groups and organizations. Please contact us if you would like to be a co-sponsor this year.  An Issue Update and Advocacy Training will be held at 9 AM on Feb. 2 at the same location.

Join Friday Protest in ABQ on Voting Irregularities

From the message boards on the Friends of MoveOn in NM blog:

This Friday, December 3rd, there will be a demonstration by an ad hoc group of concerned citizens who would like to call attention to the voting irregularities coming to light from various states across the nation.

The media is NOT reporting any of this, even though Jesse Jackson has had daily press conferences and the GAO has issued a full investigation of alleged suppression of voting within many counties in Ohio and Florida.

Please come with signs. Press releases and kits are going out Wednesday.

December 3rd from 4 PM to 6 PM in front of the Federal Court House at Lomas and 3rd.
**************
I got an email from a local Daily Kos member that explains the group that started this is comprised primarily of MoveOn and Verified Voting in NM folks. They're trying to get participation from the rest of the Albuquerque progressive community.

They believe the timing is right for this because the Green and Libertarian Party candidates just filed for a NM recount, as reported in a Washington Post article today.

Future of MoveOn House Parties This Sunday

From Adam, Eli, Hannah, James, Laura, and the whole MoveOn PAC Team: In the years to come, our secret weapon is the creativity of millions of MoveOn members like you. This Sunday, join us for our most important round of house parties yet, on the Future of MoveOn. We'll discuss the election, celebrate our incredible accomplishments this year, then you'll help determine our direction going forward.

We're always amazed by what's unleashed when people think together. We have some good ideas of our own, but we fully expect some of the best ideas for the next few years will come from Sunday's house parties. We hope you'll be there to set our priorities and contribute new ideas. If you can host a house party, please do -- we'll guide you through every step of the process.

Can you attend a Future of MoveOn house party? Sign up now at: . . . . In the spirit of MoveOn, the house parties will take place in your neighborhood, but we'll join together on a special online conference call. Adam Ruben, other MoveOn staff, and I will report back to you on the work we've done together this year. Then we'll ask you to evaluate our options for the future. With our unique online tool, you'll be able to share your conclusions, and see what other parties think, in real time.

Your friends are welcome to join us for this discussion, even if they haven't been involved in MoveOn before. We'll need every interested person for the next years' efforts. I hope you'll bring your experience and intuition to this Sunday's house parties.

P.S. If you can't make it on Sunday, we have a neat way for you to contribute to the conversation. Our member-moderated discussed forum, the ActionForum, gives you a chance to share your thoughts, read the viewpoints of others, and help us find the best new ideas. What do you think is the most important goal for MoveOn to pursue in the next four years? Tell us now by clicking here.
