Our campaign for mayor of Santa Fe is heating up, and I am writing again to request your financial support for our campaign.

I am very excited about how our campaign has taken off since the New Year began. We have truly built an organization that reflects our city. We have over 500 community members who have publicly endorsed our campaign, representing a wide spectrum of your friends, neighbors, and family. We have over 450 dedicated volunteers whom you may have already seen knocking on doors and making phone calls every day until the election just 8 weeks from now.

There are very important issues at stake with candidates who have real differences on how the city should be run.

My campaign is about creating a city that works for all of us.

For Santa Fe, we must restore the Santa Fe River and watershed, do much more on conserving water and protecting our environment, pool our health care costs and other City expenses with the County and State to hold the line on City spending, and take serious steps to eliminate domestic violence. We also have to work with and nuture our local businesses so that we can achieve the goals of our economic plan to make Santa Fe the alternative energy and arts and culture capitol of the country.

In order to achieve our goals, we also have to know how to get things done. Recently, I helped resolve the Civic Center issue, working with Pueblo leaders, local merchants and civic leaders. In that spirit, by working together, we can and will make Santa Fe a city that works for all of us.

Celebrate Opening of New Campaign HQ for David Coss

Join me tomorrow (Saturday 1/6) from noon to 3 PM for the celebration of the opening of our new Campaign Headquarters, in the Silver Saddle Motel, 2810 Cerrillos Road, next to Jackalope. We will have a chance to talk and get ready for the weeks ahead. You can pick up bumper stickers, sign up for yard signs, and see what other ways you can help.

I am very excited about the campaign. Next week we will be issuing the platform that many of you have helped develop over these last months. Please take time to read it, discuss it with your friends, and tell others about it.

Help Us with the Campaign Kickoff December 10th,  1:00 - 3:00 PM: We will be celebrating our hard work thus far, thanking our volunteers (in particular the Coffee with Coss hosts, who are opening their homes to us), marking the kickoff of the next phase of the campaign and talking about how David will make Santa Fe a city that works for all of us. Please join us at David and Carol Rose’s home, 2014 Otowi Road, just off Osage (the extension of St. Michaels Drive) in Casa Alegre.

Neighborhood Blitz,  Saturday and Sunday, December 3rd and 4th: In preparation for the Campaign Kickoff, we will walking in David's neighborhood on Saturday, Dec. 3rd from 9 AM - 1 PM and again on Sunday, Dec. 4th from 11:30 am - 3:30 PM.  We will be inviting his neighbors to the campaign kick-off and talking with them about his campaign. In addition, a small group will canvass independently during the afternoon and evening of the following Monday, December 5th. Support Santa Fe's Living Wage at Appeals Hearing

From the Santa Fe Living Wage Network:

*  Hear the Court of Appeals argument at 9:30 AM on June 22nd. A three judge panel of the New Mexico Court of Appeals will hear the appeal of the Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce from Judge Daniel Sanchez's June, 2004 ruling that the Santa Fe Living Wage Ordinance is legally valid. The panel consists of Judges Lynn Pickard, Michael Bustamante, and Cynthia Fry. Come and show your support by listening to the argument. The Courts of Appeals is at 237 Don Gaspar in Santa Fe.

*  Celebrate Economic Justice at 6:00 PM. Join us at 6 PM on Wednesday, June 22nd at the National Education Association Building, 2007 Botulph Road, for a festive celebration of the first anniversary of the living wage in Santa Fe. The NEA Building is across St. Michaels Drive from St. Vincent Hospital.

The Program will show a sneak preview of the new film by Thunder Road Productions about the Santa Fe Living Wage campaign, funded by the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee. We will also be awarding certificates of appreciation to all the volunteer lawyers who defended the Living Wage Ordinance in Court, including those arguing in the Court of Appeals the morning of June 22nd. There will also be music, door prizes, and food donated by Walter Burke Catering, Santa Fe Baking Co., Rt. 66 Sandwich Shop, El Tesoro Cafe, Tribes Coffee House, Aztec Cafe, and other dishes from more restaurants.

Tickets: You need to buy tickets in advance so that we know how many are coming. Tickets are $8.50 per person (tickets are free for children under 10). To get tickets contact Sheila at 983-9563 or  info@santafelivingwage.org. If you can, get a book of 10 and help us sell tickets.

Sponsors: We would like people to sponsor the evening, so that we can keep down the expense of tickets and also raise funds for the work of the Network. Therefore, we invite you to be a supporter. Santa Fe Events Feature 'Confessions of a Hit Man' Author John Perkins

COMING MONDAY, JUNE 13TH! - New York Times Best-selling author John Perkins,  Confessions of an Economic Hit Man, in a benefit appearance for Santa Fe Public Radio. It's June 13th, at 7PM, at the Lensic. Tickets available at $20 ($10 students) by calling the box office at 505-988-1234.

AND... You're also invited to join John Perkins at a special reception before the event at the Museum of Fine Arts, hosted by KSFR. A donation of $125 per person includes wine and hors d'oeuvres, a personally signed copy of his book, and preferred reserved seating at the evening's event. John Perkins will also be appearing as part of the Face to Face Conversation Series on TUESDAY, JUNE 14, from 3-5PM at WAREHOUSE 21 at 1614 Paseo de Peralta in Santa Fe. This will be an open discussion of ideas and issues that affect all of us as Americans, led by a now world famous conversationalist. DFA Meetups Today and Tomorrow

DFA - Democracy for New Mexico Meetups will be held in Santa Fe and Las Cruces tonight, and in Albuquerque Thursday night. Click on links in the Coming Events section of the right-hand sidebar on this page for event details or to RSVP.

Our Albuquerque Meetup will feature visits from Mayor Martin Chavez and District 7 City Council candidate Marianne Dickinson, as well as our honoring of citizen activists and NM legislators who were involved in the passage of the election reform bill, including Sen. Cisco McSorley, Sen. Gerald Ortiz y Pino, Rep. Danice Picraux and Rep. Ken Martinez. (Although Sen. Linda Lopez was invited, she'll be unable to attend because she's celebrating her mom's birthday.)

We'll also be hearing from Matt Henderson of ACORN about how we can help with their Living Wage project. State Democratic Party Resolutions Chair Mel O'Reilly will be reporting on events at the State Central Committee and Resolutins meetings this month and his views on where the Party should go from here. And of course we'll be hearing a number of announcements, including info on upcoming election reform fundraisers featuring investigative journalist Greg Palast. Come on down!
