Sen. Tom Udall Announces $2.6M for Expanding School-Based Clinics in NM

Senator Tom Udall (D-NM) announced yesterday that six school-based health clinics in New Mexico will receive a total of $2,615,877 to expand and increase health care services for students.

Organizations that will receive funding are the Des Moines Municipal Schools in Des Moines; Native American Community Academy in Albuquerque; Northeast Regional Education Cooperative in Las Vegas; University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center in Albuquerque; La Clinica Del Pueble De Rio Arriba in Tierra Amarilla; and the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico in Las Cruces (see below for details).

The funding is provided through the Affordable Care Act and will help clinics expand services by more than 50 percent at schools.

“It's commonsense that healthy kids do much better in school and go on to lead more productive lives,” Udall said. “This funding will help these school clinics expand and provide New Mexico students with needed access to health services.”

• The Community Foundation of Southern NM, Las Cruces: $117,183
