7/23: Dem Women of Sandoval County Host Messaging Workshop

From Democratic Women of Sandoval County:

You're invited to a FREE messaging workshop
Saturday, July 23, 9AM to Noon
Corrales Senior Center, 4324 Corrales Road
Refreshments and beverages provided.

Tired of Republican-speak being repeated by ourselves and our friends and acquaintances? Come join with fellow Democrats in learning to use words more effectively in making our values understood. The workshop is presented by “The Potentials,” a group of five dedicated Democrats who have spent time studying the writings of Thom Hartmann and George Lakoff. They use a combination of lecture and group exercises to teach more effective use of language.

Please bring writing paper and pen. Nothing else is required except an interest in learning about this important topic. If you have a laptop, you might want to bring it. For more information: call or e-mail Janice Saxton at 867-1139  jnjsaxton@msn.com.

I would like to point out that it isn't just about messaging. There has been a lot of talk and focus on that subject. It is a good thing generally. More of that is good.

My point is that we need to exercise our speech freedom more energetically. We The People tend to think in terms of systems that we are used to and ways and means that we are used to.

The result is that many people who gain some useful insights from workshops like this will never use them, will never be in a position to use them.

Unless we take the next step.

If you live in a culture like that of the East Coast you are used to people who habitually are very verbose. Not so much in the West.

That cultural habit is one key element. When you look at blog posts in this blog for instance, most comments are short like telegrams.

There aren't a lot of people who are hair on fire to explain, explicate and explore all of the various aspects that probably ought to be pursued.

There is a saying among media activists, "Be The Media."

The bitter truth is that the media is a blockade for information and dialogue. What we need is to grasp any opportunity and and means that might be available and make it work - to overcome the media blockade.

Anything, anywhere, anytime. Practice, practice, practice.
