Hate Email Typifies Approach of Right Wing "Movement"
See below the break for a message I received today at the email address for this blog. I decided to share it with you as I believe it illustrates the kind of hateful mindset that is being fomented and nourished by right-wing and tea party strategists, politicians and pundits, as well as their misguided supporters.
As we've learned, a significant amount of funding for this "movement" is being funneled through secretive right-wing organizations that are getting their donations from large corporate interests, wealthy hedge fund managers and even foreign governments -- thanks to the Citizens United decision by the Supreme Court. Karl Rove's Crossroads GPS and American Crossroads, American Action Network and the US Chamber of Commerce are examples of "movement" players that poured millions of dollars into nasty ad campaigns attacking Democrats and using appeals to the baser nature of voters to do it. One of the "movement's" favorite techniques is to use immigration as a wedge issue. Another is to question the citizenship and religion of President Obama -- as we saw now congressman-elect Steve Pearce do in this campaign cycle.
On another local note, one of the donors who contributed seven million dollars to American Crossroads was none other than Swiftboater Bob Perry of Texas. You may recall that Perry and his wife gave now governor-elect Susana Martinez the largest donation in New Mexican history -- $450,000. It's all of a piece, isn't it? And there's more of it to come. Rove has announced that he and others intend to keep up the barrage of attack ads and other initiatives all the way through the coming lame-duck session of Congress and beyond. This is the new America courtesy of conservative and corporatist extremists. And it's not a pretty picture.
I reproduced the email just as it was received -- odd spacing and all -- so you could get the true flavor of the sender. I did remove the sender's email address:

It seems that there is an inverse relation between logic and panic.
Why are so many otherwise functional people giving themselves over to just eyeball rolling back up into the head, howling at the moon, fingers in the light socket, pure blind rage?
I always thought that the best qualities of American patriotism had to do with steadiness under fire and an ability to think through tough circumstances unemotionally.
To me, the prospect of having to think in the midst of a time when everything is complicated, is what is scaring these folks.
We all need to keep our shirts on.

I was just wondering what the ignorant comments made in the e-mail have to do with the politics as usual intro that is made. It doesn't fit.
We all know there are ignorant folks on both sides and we do need to know about those out there but it doesn't fit into the rant of organizations contributing and being involved in politics.

It rather reminds me of why one vocal black blogger who did 'leave the USA' said the place was properly spelled AmeriKKKa. Not that the poison was first seen here, if that's any consolation.
Faux News are excellent practitioners of the art of public malice - an essential component of fascist ( I wasn't supposed to call it that ? Corporate, then )propaganda.
You won't do more than decry the obvious - like Media Matters - if the best you can do is refuse to see beyond the established parameters of 'acceptable' discussion. That's like hamsters on a wheel : good exercise and gets nowhere.
What I mean is partly covered in the Topical Index entry 'Perception Alteration' at opitslinkfest.blogspot.com/

Statements and actions that produce hate like this have been pushed by Republicans like Ariz. Governor Brewer and Sheriff Arpaio, Sarah Palin, Republican members of Congress, the RNC and all of the Republican echo chamber like Matt Drudge, Rush Limbaugh and everyone on Fox News. They scapegoat immigrants, gay people and all minorities and then Sid acts like he never heard of it.
There are ignorant people on all sides but the point is that the right wing establishment and its many parts has been working for years to produce a hateful backlash against our president and anyone else that gets in the way of their corporate agenda. Who created the fake grassroots teabaggers? Dick Armey on purpose.

"There are ignorant people on all sides."
Where is your example of ignorance to this degree on the left? I am tired of comments that equate left and right wing points of view as being somehow equivalent or in some way equal in terms of ignorance or vitriol. These statements are made everyday in MSM following a right-wing extremist display of this sort without ever an example of equivalence on the left to back it up.
I have been trying to tell people on the left that they need to read and critically analyze such diatribes as this e-mail. People on the left usually dismiss this kind of mentality as so obviously outrageous that no one can possibly take it seriously. Hence, these sorts of rants are dismissed out of hand. That is a big mistake because this is exactly the mentality that won the last election for the republicans. Rather than knee-jerk isn't it apparent to everyone how stupid this guy must be, we need to take this very, very seriously. Rather than starting an echo chamber, we need to come up with some good ideas on how to counter this in the wider political culture in terms that even the most ignorant can understand. Given that there is no corporate sponsorship of sanity or any notions from the so called left, and given that wider media is corporate owned, this is a very tough call.
Any ideas? Perhaps we could start with a critical analysis of the e-mail above.
OK, I will start. My counter argument as to the illegality of human beings is that if a law is unjust and un-enforcible, the law is rendered mute.
Proof that the law is un-enforcible is the amount of money and resources that has gone into and goes into illegal immigration law enforcement and the substantial increase of money and resources poured into illegal immigration by OBAMA has not made much of a difference. The fact that illegal immigration is statistically DOWN at this time is more due more to our lousy economy than to enforcement measures. Another point, why hasn't the left made it clear to the ignorant, such as this e-mail guy, that OBAMA has poured ever greater funding and resources into border enforcement than any republican administration proceeding?
If a law violates human and civil rights, then the law is immoral and unjust. Perhaps the immorality of shooting people coming across the border could be propagated in religious terms. The left-wing could stoop to cravenly and shamelessly using religion to make the point...
So, all we "ignorant" people on the left need to do is to frame these rational arguments in terms that the ignorant person, such that composed the e-mail above, can understand. That is the hard part.
