Speakers Announced for Stewart L. Udall’s Public Memorial Service on June 20

The Udall family has released a list of speakers scheduled to participate in the June 20, 2010, public memorial service for their late patriarch, Stewart L. Udall. Family and friends are expected to travel to Santa Fe from across the country to take part in the celebration of life.

“Stewart L. Udall: A Celebration of Life and Legacy” will take place on Father’s Day to honor the former Interior Secretary and father of U.S. Sen. Tom Udall, who passed away peacefully on March 20 at the age of 90 at his home in Santa Fe.

Those gathering to honor the late Secretary Udall include:

  • Udall’s three surviving siblings: Burr Udall, Eloise Whiting and Elma Udall

  • His children: Tom, Scott, Lynn, Lori, Denis, Jay and their families, including eight grandchildren

  • New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson

  • Jemez Pueblo Governor Joshua Madalena

  • Native American activist Ladonna Harris

  • Former Director of the National Park Service Robert Stanton

  • Udall’s niece, Gail Houston of the UNM English Department

  • Udall’s nephew, U.S. Sen. Mark Udall (Colo.)

  • Former business partner Herbert Brown

  • Historian of the American West Patti Limerick

  • Friends: Patrick Lannan, Don Tashion, Gifford Phillips

  • Former aide and author James Reston, Jr.

  • Businesswoman and publisher Ana Pacheco

“On Father's Day, we invite our dad’s friends and admirers to join us in honoring him through a celebration of music, poetry and personal remembrances," said Sen. Tom Udall.

The celebration of life will be open to the public.

Actually planned to see if the Rail Runner would be running on Fathers Day just to take a ride. I'll plan to attend the program.

No, the train leaves 'way too late on Sunday. Maybe we should stay overnight in Santa Fe to get there early enough. The Paolo Soleri only seats about 300, and news of its impending demolition this summer has increased interest, too.
