5/19: Dem Women of Sandoval County Host Think New Mexico

In May the Democratic Women of Sandoval County will host Think New Mexico. Think New Mexico is an independent, results-oriented think tank serving New Mexicans known for its successful campaigns to repeal the state’s regressive tax on food; to redirect millions of dollars a year out of the New Mexico lottery’s excessive operating costs and into full-tuition college scholarships; to create a Strategic Water Reserve to restore and protect the state’s rivers; to reform title insurance to lower closing costs for homebuyers and homeowners who refinance their mortgages; and to make full-day kindergarten accessible to every child in New Mexico.

The presentation will be on May 19th at the the Bernalillo Town Hall: 829 S. Camino del Pueblo in Bernalillo at 7:00 PM. (Meet and Greet 6:30 PM.)

Kristina G. Fisher will make May's presentation. Kristina is Associate Director of Think New Mexico. Kristina will provide a brief overview of Think New Mexico’s mission and past work, and will then discuss the organization’s current initiative to effectively address “pay to play” corruption by banning contributions from lobbyists and special interests. She will present the history and research behind this proposal, as well as the similar steps taken by other states. Kristina will also discuss the legal context for these reforms, including the recent Supreme Court decision Citizens United.
