Call Sen. Bingaman Today on Lieberman Chairmanship
Joe Lieberman wants to keep his powerful post as chair of Homeland Security Committee, after failing to hold any oversight hearings on Katrina, not to mention Iraq. He suggested Obama was a Marxist while campaigning for McCain, several Republican senators, and speaking at the Republican Convention. Sixty votes or no, he should be told that we have had enough.
Senator Bingaman will cast a vote early this week this Tuesday on this committee assignment. Please call his office ASAP at (202) 224-5521 and let him know how you feel. (h/t BG)

Since we'll never know how Sen. Bingaman votes, I called to tell the Senator how I feel about the issue. Of course I talked to the staffer who answered the phone.
I know that if I had done anything like what Liarman and Jennings have done, I would be stripped of my position tout suite. I think the same should happen with Liarman and Jennings, at least insofar as the party can accomplish. Obviously Liarman and Jennings have been elected by their constituents. They keep their offices. However, they need to be stripped of their leadership positions.

I have a feeling that this is going to be yet another capitulation from the spineless majority. I am reading where a couple of Senators are offering a compromise consisting of LIEberman keeping his HLS Chair but loosing some meaningless sub-committee Chair. Hope I am wrong but considering the history Senate Dem's have of folding I am not holding my breath.

Lieberman is given a pass and given critical power over the American people while not making the criminally incompetent accountable.
This action by the Senate Dems does not bode well for the courage and haste that will be required to mitigate the coming economic depression.
Lieberman plays his role well pretending to fulfill the right-wing dominionist notion of the sick role that Jews will play in their psychotic end time scenarios.
Hillary is a Neo-Con hawk.
Hillary Clinton's offer as SOS does not bode well for the moral change towards peace and stability that the world craves.
Are the Dems still appeasing the AIPAC/LIKUD? It sure as hell looks like that is the case. It is time to realize Israel is best protected by stability in the region. Even the Israelis are sick of war.

I'm glad someone has the courage to say it plainly. Things are not looking good with the Obama presidency. Placating the right wing hawk segment of the party is plain stupid pandering and it makes me sick to think about it.

I also phoned Bingaman's office, and pointed out that when the Republicans were the majority party THEY did not make Lieberman chair of this committee!
Well, we can only hope that Dems will oust Lieberman if he makes any more disloyal moves. They can then say they did give him a chance. I would prefer they just use the nuclear option and throw out the tradition of the filibuster altogether.

Get rid of the filibuster? That would be crazy.

The Dems should just let the Reps filibuster and show themselves for the obstructionists that they are. I hope and pray for courage from this congress to truly represent the common good rather than the corporate good for the real change for which we all voted.

The problem is that too many Dems in the Senate are actually obstructionists. They've just been using the Republicans as a shield, letting them do the heavy lifting on the blocking. Think about it.
