Hillary and Barack to Visit New Mexico
Sunday: Hillary Clinton will campaign at a public event in Española Sunday for Obama:
August 17, Doors Open 2:00 PM
Gym at Northern New Mexico College
921 Paseo de Oñate, Española, NM
First come, first served, no bags
Afterwards, Gov. Bill Richardson will host private fundraisers in Albuquerque and Santa Fe to help Hillary with her campaign debt. I'm sure all our U.S. House, U.S. Senate, State House and State Senate candidates are thrilled. I know I am. Let's pull more money out of the state, why don't we!
As for Barack, his campaign has announced he'll be visiting New Mexico on Monday, but no other details are yet available. I hope he does a big public event somewhere in a more rural part of the state, not in Albuquerque or Santa Fe. We're already for Obama -- he needs to reach out to other areas that gave strong support to Hillary in the primary.

I think it's tough for the campaign to justify sending the candidate to rural NM--as opposed to rural Indiana, say, where there are a lot more votes to be had. Meanwhile, the Albuquerque media market covers the entire state--unlike in more densely populated states.
That's purely looking at it from the standpoint of a campaign manager who is jealously guarding every dollar. But I know it would be a nice symbolic touch for him to visit Gallop--just not sure there would be enough of a benefit electorally for him to do that.
If Bill Clinton would get over his pique, he'd be a good one to send out there.

I think it's especially important this year, and especially in areas where Clinton was strong. Hillary is speaking in Espanola today and that is great and I hope Obama follows on her heels.
Somehow I don't think money is as much of a concern to Obama as our past nominees.
I think he should do at least one big public event up North and another in the Las Cruces area. The LC area has grown a lot in the last few years.
