Dems Can Now Request Absentee Ballots for Prez Caucus
As of yesterday, December 17, 2007, registered Democrats in the State of New Mexico may request absentee ballots for the Presidential Preference Caucus. The request form is available at Democratic Party of New Mexico Headquarters, via fax, e-mail or for download at the Democratic Party of New Mexico website at www.nmdemocrats.org.
“The absentee ballot program is aimed at making the Presidential Preference Caucus accessible to every Democrat in New Mexico,” said Democratic Party of New Mexico Chairman Brian S. Colón. “We hope that easy access to absentee ballots will encourage more New Mexicans to participate in this historical event.”
The DPNM will begin sending out absentee (vote-by-mail) ballots on January 12th, 2008, to those who request them. The Party will accept requests for absentee ballots until 5:00 PM on January 21st, 2008. Completed absentee ballots must be returned by mail and postmarked by January 28th. Counting of absentee ballots begins on Caucus Day, February 5th, 2008. The Democratic Party of New Mexico Headquarters is located at 1301 San Pedro NE in Albuquerque. Any registered Democrat in New Mexico can request an absentee ballot. Members of the Armed Forces, spouses and dependants of military personnel overseas and any other voter registered as a Democrat in New Mexico who is overseas may also vote by mail by requesting an absentee ballot.
The Presidential Preference Caucus is a statewide election conducted on February 5th, 2008 by the Democratic Party of New Mexico for the purpose of voting for the Democratic nominee for President of the United States. The results of this election will be used to determine New Mexico’s allocation of delegates among the Democratic Presidential Candidates to the Democratic National Convention in August 2008. There will be a total of 184 caucus sites on February 5th.
If you have any questions or concerns or would like to inquire about the February 5th Caucus please call (505) 830-3650 or email info@nmdemocrats.org.

So if we order an Absentee for the NM Caucus our ballot would read:
Governor Richardson
Senator Dodd
How exciting! That is going to drive turn-out!
Give me a break!

I have it on pretty good authority that Edwards and Obama will also be on the ballot. The ballots are not going to be mailed out tomorrow. there is still time for other Presidential candidates to get on the ballot. To the writer of the comment ,do you actually vote or just complain? Thanks Stephanie L. DuBois

I answer that for you Stephanie, westside voter is a cry baby troll that whines and contributes NOTHING positive. I am really excited to get a chance to participate in voting in our Presidential Caucus, this election is so important and could possibly be historical on so many levels its really great to be able to participate.

If Westside Voter can't make money off something he doesn't like it. Marty Chavez supporters are like that.

DPNM Congressional District 2 Vice Chair Dubois,
The news that Senator Obama or any of the other Top Tier candidates will file would be great news. Why is it kept secret? There was a news conference that I was at and beyond that there has not been much news of the NM Caucus. I am sorry if the sarcasm of my comment is taken as whining, but it should register as a complaint. To answer your question that if that is all I do - no it is not. In fact in my Ward we have been walking neighborhoods, getting signatures for Democrat Congressional Candidates, recruiting volunteers, and listening to everyday, ordinary New Mexicans so that I can go back and explain to Party leadership what the word is on the GRASSROOTS level. The fact that none of the Top Tier candidates have filed in our NM Caucus is a complaint of registered Democrats that we have knocked on doors and/or have made phone calls to. I would think that in your position of authority you would have a bit more candor about how or who you talk to! My email address is at the bottom of every single post.
As for the making money comment... ask my wife and 3 kids how much volunteering, contributing money to the party, contributing money and attending almost every single event that the local party and its affiliates have put on we have done! You know what I don't see are names like BUZZ, VP, etc. on donor lists or volunteer lists or phone banking in the party office or anything. Why is that? Because you guys are cowards that send anonymous swift boat pieces in the mail and what not!

Yeah we know what kind of candidates your working for. The crooked machine types that give the party a bad name. The ones who don't support equal rights for everyone or a woman's right to choose. The kind that pass out the bribes and jobs for votes. Time to clean out the party.

Buzz is a coward!

OK folks, let's try and keep it a bit more civil. I know that Westside works hard for the party.
I'm sure some of the presidential candidates are waiting to see how they do in Iowa and/or NH before they pay the fee to get on the NM Dem ballot.

I, for one, agree with westside on this. Shouldn't we wait until the ballot is more complete? It is really early to be voting anyway.
Why attack westside for a very valid comment?
You dems sometimes spend more energy attacking each other than the crazy fascists like Pearce and Wilson!
Focus people.

Dear Fellow Democrats,
It was brought to my attention that there was some misinformation regarding our process being posted on your site which I would like to address. As of December 5th, 2007, the date of our Caucus Media Kickoff which Westwide Voter was kind enough to attend, along with many other state elected officials and party officials, we only had 2 presidential candidates who had filed with the Party, Governor Richardson and Senator Chris Dodd. This fact is something that has never been kept secret. Since that date, we have had three other candidates file and pay their fee - all of which have come literally since 12/12/07: Clinton, Edwards and Obama (Obama's was just received today so I guess this is breaking news). My staff has also fielded serious calls from Senator Biden's campaign, and I personally spoke with Senator Biden about whether he would be filing at the DNC meeting in Vienna, Virginia late last month, and he confirmed that he would be. We also except (and hope) that loyal NM Kucinich supporters will be successful in collecting the 5,000 signatures necessary to get on our ballot (the requirement is a $2500 fee or 5000 signatures).
A few things about our procedures for the Caucus (which are spelled out in our Delegate Selection Plan available on our website) (1) candidates for President have until 5pm, January 2, 2008 to file to be on our ballot. (2) the position of candidates' names on our ballot will be determined by lottery drawing after all candidates have filed. (3) although absentee ballot request forms began to be accepted yesterday at our office, the ballots themselves will not begin to be mailed until January 12th. For those of you keeping track, this means that the actual ballots themselves won't be printed until after the lottery drawing.
We remain excited and hopeful about the Caucus and expect that we will have plenty of candidates. We also anticipate a lot of excitement around the state for the Caucus, and I hope you will continue to help spread the word. I am also happy that our efforts continue to inspire discussion about our procedures and the need to have as many options from which to choose our elected officals as possible. And I'm happy to hear that people are committed to returning to the grassroots activism that will ensure we have a Blue State in '08.
Please feel free to contact me directly (laura@nmdemocrats.org) if you have any questions about the Presidential Candidates filing for our Caucus, or anything else related to the Caucus or the Party, or you may also direct questions to our Caucus Director Beth Adams (era56@aol.com).
Thanks for letting me be part of the discussion! Happy Holidays!

Laura:
Thanks for clearing that up! Sounds like most of the candidates will be on the ballot, which is excellent.
It can get a little hot under the collar in here at times....
