VOTING RESULTS

Closing in on midnight for election day 2006.

Some good wins and some disappointments and some unknowns.

To me a big disappointment is seeing Baca loose.  How could that happen, how could we get the rest of the state ticket elected and baca not win. Say good bye to the protection of our public lands. Condolenses Mr Baca from DFNM.

Great win for James Lewis. Prideful Democratic dignity.  Good showing for the Governor.

Of course big unknown.....Patricia Madrid...I am very hopeful!  Holy shit it is close.

Please add your thoughts on this thread of your happy win, sore loss, or whatever.

Please share.........what a day....what a lot of work by all in this state and indeed across the country.  The people speak.

Ps thanks all for previous caring healing thoughts and vibes for our webmaster. Again this is Mary Ellen goodnight and goodluck!

Great showing by the Governor and most of the down ballot ticket. Madrid's race does not look all that hopeful as they get ready to count absentee votes. The really bad news for New Mexico I think is that apparently 2 state house seats have gone from D to R.

Nationally, 25 to 30 gain in the House, And a good chance that the three remaining Senate Seats will go Democratic. The last few precints in VA (16?) are apparently in a Democratic area. Missouri looks good too. CNN gives great breakdowns by county.

A suggestion. Lets trade S.E. New Mexico to Texas for El Paso County. Yes, I know the oil and gas but S.E. New Mexico is hopeless.

I am so hyped I cannot go to sleep--The House and maybe the Senate! ( Webb, please....)

As for Madrid, what a race--kudos to her for such a good fight, whatever the outcome. Interesting that Heather is so concerned about counting every vote now...

Crap, Chan 7 reporting that Wilson has moved ahead by a few hundred votes.

We have the House. We may have the Senate. We have the majority of Governors. I'd like to know if we have the majority of Secretaries of State, especially in swing states. We know from 2000 and 2004 how pivotal those offices are. There are a few seats that will probably necessitate a recount, and NM District 1 is probably one of them. I hope we pull it out, for Barb's sake. Get well soon, Barb: we all have a LOT to celebrate.

Good News and Bad News The bad news is that Heather might pull off a win, but the GOOD News is that we won the SENATE and HOUSE.

Acn anyone explain why heather is carrying santa fe (or 67% of it)?

I cant see how that is... from the last presidential election, santa fe went to kerry pretty big.

and where is the rest of SF's votes?

Posted by: frijole | Nov 8, 2006 8:15:15 AM

I doubt it's over for Madrid yet. Last I heard, not all votes were in yet... and Wilson was up by only a fraction of a percent. And whoever wins, in this close of a race, there will almost definitely be a recount.

One friend of mine didn't make it out to vote, because her mom didn't text her back with the location. I wish she had asked me. Would've been more than happy to help her. Hell... if I knew earlier that I'd have election day off, I'd probably have volunteered at the polls.

At any rate, if Madrid loses out, at least Democrat control has been strongly established in the House. That's what Madrid seems to really be wanting, though it would be nice if she could be a part of that majority. If nothing else though, the closeness of this race should send a strong message to Wilson.

thanks for the update randall.
frijole: SF has just a small sliver of space in CD1 that is why you are not hearing about the larger SF. Good question though this is the stuff we are learning. I just realized last night that this was the case.
If more of SF was in cd1 we would be in better shape one would think.

I think district 1 was pretty badly Gerrymandered from the beginning. Consider it's never had a Democrat win.

At any rate, this is a part of the election that may not be decided for a week or so.

Well, I should be headed off to bed. I'm used to being up all night, but even if I wasn't, I probably would've stayed up for this election :) As a whole, us Bush opponents did very well this time. The most we can do at this point is to hope for the best in our own local election. Have a good day, everyone! (And get some sleep, already!)

If Ms Madrid looses, it will be a disappointment, but let's not turn a day of celebration into a wake over it. Even if it turns out that Wilson is re-elected she will pretty much be irrelevant in the House.

Just wanted to pass along all my best to Barb Wold and wish her a very speedy recovery. Barb,
we need you now more than ever!

I'm very nervous, but happy at the same time -- happy that even if Madrid loses, the good guys (and gals) still picked up ~30 seats.

My prediction of 21 was a bit off, eh?

And I'll be pleasantly surprised if my Senate prediction (5) turns out to be a bit low. I am very confident that Webb has Virginia against George "My Dad Was a Great Football Coach, but I'm Just a Racist" Allen, and it looks like Conrad "Hate the Firefighters" Burns is going down to Tester in Montana.

Good night overall, let's hope for some of the nationwide Democratic mojo to work its magic in NM-01.

More GOOD NEWS Rumsfield has RESIGNED!!! YEEE HAWWW!

Posted by: VP | Nov 8, 2006 11:01:52 AM

well, wilson is still up, but at least madrid carried bernalillo. (finally 100% reporting)

still a few sandoval/santa fe ballots out there...

I think district 1 was pretty badly Gerrymandered from the beginning. Consider it's never had a Democrat win.

Gerrymandered with a majority of registered Democrats? Not likely. (46% to 35%: NM CD Voter Registration.)

I'm not going to get to exciting about Rumsfeld resigning. No matter who is in that position, it is someone of Bush's choosing, and is loyal to and answers to Bush. I'm not saying that I'm not glad to see Rumsfeld go, but I wouldn't start celebrating yet.
