Following Feingold
Today's assignment: Go read the transcript of his press conference today about his censure resolution. Then keep pressing your Senators.
Democratic Senators have no excuse. Look at this:
Do you favor or oppose the United States Senate passing a resolution censuring President George W. Bush for authorizing wiretaps of Americans within the United States without obtaining court orders? | |||
3/15/06 | Favor | Oppose | Undecided |
All Adults | 46% | 44% | 10% |
Voters | 48% | 43% | 9% |
Republicans (33%) | 29% | 57% | 14% |
Democrats (37%) | 70% | 26% | 4% |
Independents (30%) | 42% | 47% | 11% |
Based on 1,100 completed telephone interviews among a random sample of adults nationwide March 13-15, 2006. The theoretical margin of error is plus or minus 3 percentage points, 95% of the time. |

Please take a minute to thank Senator Feingold, and let's keep pressing Bingaman and Domenici to support his Resolution.

Senator Tom Harkin of Iowa has come out in support of the censure of Bush.
Read his statement, "Why I Fully Support Bush Censure" on his senate web site on following link:

It is great!
I hope others will follow his lead.

I wrote Harkin to thank him. From his statement:
"Let's be clear: No American – and that must include the President – is above the law. And if we fail to hold Bush to account, then he will be confirmed in his conviction that he can pick and choose among the laws he wants to obey. This is profoundly dangerous to our democracy."

The NY Times has an editorial against censure in Friday's paper. Ironically, they make some good points while coming to a conclusion with which I disagree. Feingold's press conference was great, with some sound bites that every Democratic candidate would do well to use between now and November. My favorite was "If you fear your own government, the ability of us all to pull
together against the terrorist threat is weakened." Next best was "This is not about whether we were misled into a war; this is about our system of government. This is about the rule of law. This is a very specific, disturbing attempt to change the structure of our government permanently." This guy is really good.

By the way, DailyKos makes a great point: with none of the prominent Dem sites featuring the censure resolution - even though it is Google's third biggest news story - we need to do the carrot-and-stick thing and A) bitch at those web sites that are acting like nothing is happening, and B) donate to Feingold's PAC to show our support. I just sent them $50. Go to https://tinyurl.com/8tral to donate.
And a tip of the hat to this site, which keeps us so well informed on things that matter. If all we had was the DNC's web site, we'd be sunk, and drinking heavily.

Barbara Boxer is also supporting Feingold's censure. I agree we should thank everyone who supports Feingold's efforts. I also intend to use quotes from Harkin's statement when I contact Bingaman's office again.

The Americans and New Mexicans are angry at "La Politica" for not standing up for them. Where are the Democrats when the American People need them the most. In order for Bingaman to gain respect from New Mexicans he must become a leader and defend the Constitution which he swore to defend. Eli Chavez, Independent
