New Mexico's Richardson Praises Dean
Richardson: Dean Does Good Job Despite Some Comments
POSTED: 8:19 pm EDT June 7, 2005
BEDFORD, N.H. -- New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson says that Howard Dean is doing a good job as head of the National Democratic Party.
Richardson, chairman of the national Democratic Governors' Association, made the comments after a speech in Bedford on Tuesday.
Richardson said Dean is reaching out to state Democratic parties.

Yes, he did say that, but he also was quoted in New Hampshire as saying Dean needed to "tone it down" and that it was the governors who should be talking policy and being the spokespeople for the Party. As usual, he worked to have it both ways. Dissing Dean speaking for Dems while saying he's doing a good job in Party building. Still, it was good that he didn't mount an all-out attack on Dean, as Biden and others did.

HE also said that Governor Dean is his chairman and he SPEAKS for him. Teh governor's comments about Dean speaking for the party came from his personal feelings that the DNC has been a Washington DC based organization that is out of touch with the problems of governing that Democratic governor's in red and blue states are facing.
His point is that the fight is not in DC but in the states and he is making a good faith effort to finding solutions and help retain democratic incumbent governors and elect new ones as well.

Yeah, Richardson definitely believes the governors should have more clout within the DNC! What we wonder about is if he believes grassroots Dems should have increased clout as well...
