Future of MoveOn House Parties This Sunday

From Adam, Eli, Hannah, James, Laura, and the whole MoveOn PAC Team: In the years to come, our secret weapon is the creativity of millions of MoveOn members like you. This Sunday, join us for our most important round of house parties yet, on the Future of MoveOn. We'll discuss the election, celebrate our incredible accomplishments this year, then you'll help determine our direction going forward.

We're always amazed by what's unleashed when people think together. We have some good ideas of our own, but we fully expect some of the best ideas for the next few years will come from Sunday's house parties. We hope you'll be there to set our priorities and contribute new ideas. If you can host a house party, please do -- we'll guide you through every step of the process.

Can you attend a Future of MoveOn house party? Sign up now at: . . . . In the spirit of MoveOn, the house parties will take place in your neighborhood, but we'll join together on a special online conference call. Adam Ruben, other MoveOn staff, and I will report back to you on the work we've done together this year. Then we'll ask you to evaluate our options for the future. With our unique online tool, you'll be able to share your conclusions, and see what other parties think, in real time.

Your friends are welcome to join us for this discussion, even if they haven't been involved in MoveOn before. We'll need every interested person for the next years' efforts. I hope you'll bring your experience and intuition to this Sunday's house parties.

P.S. If you can't make it on Sunday, we have a neat way for you to contribute to the conversation. Our member-moderated discussed forum, the ActionForum, gives you a chance to share your thoughts, read the viewpoints of others, and help us find the best new ideas. What do you think is the most important goal for MoveOn to pursue in the next four years? Tell us now by clicking here.

MoveOn is the best alternative to the DNC we have right now. I will be attending a party on Sunday, and hope to encourage them to hold monthly Meetups, maybe in conjunction with the Progressive Democratic Alliance, DFA, ACT, and others. If we can't take over the DNC - and we have to try - another option is to create a progressive version of the DLC.

Mary Ellen and I plan to go to one too. I don't know if they are the "best" alternative to the DNC or not, but they do have alot of people nationwide already in the loop and I definitely want to support them.

It will be telling to see whether they can move on (sorry) to continuing concrete action at the local level or not. Of course, the same could be said for all these groups, including DFNM.

I have to say if MoveOn people came in droves to our DFNM-Albuquerque Meetup, we'd have to get a much larger room! Or split up. It's difficult to determine what size group is best for carrying out effective actions.

I keep hearing about or from small pockets of "activists" here in Albuquerque who want to do SOMETHING but seem to want to do it on their own, not as part of DFNM or other groups. I don't know if this is good or bad. What do you think?

Isn't splintering one of the chief problems of democrats? I think it wise to encourage people who want to do something to come to meet-up and find out whether there are others who they could work with-like being part of a progressive group to work within the existing party structure. If enough progressives went to party meetings we would have a better chance to make changes and put up candidates

What Jeanne said. Dead on. Dems and progressives need to improve our teamwork.
