Notes from ladies locker room at Westside Riverpoint Sports and Wellness:
Pulling on my new Friends for Kerry tee shirt, sent to me by a pal in DC whose kids attend Sidwell Friends School, I was greeted by an exuberant "yay" from a woman combing her hair. She went on to say that she thought Edwards was "hot," and "the most gorgeous smart man in politics," and she wasn't ashamed to say it. Her teenage daughter good-naturedly endured in the background. I then said, "Well in truth I would vote for Miss Piggy against Bush, or even Attila the Hun," and then another woman chimed in, "Yep--Bush has got to go. He is a menace to this nation's democracy." She added that she was visually success for Kerry, daily, and thought we should all do the same. Other women in the vicinity smiled, saying nothing, as they pulled on their tights, but we vocal ones agreed we felt that NM would go Blue.
Remarkable that we all know what we mean when we say that? The sleeping giant of the American electorate begins to wake up!
